Pampore: Amid tight security arrangements, the Chhari Mubarak (holy mace) left for Amarnath cave from Srinagar Monday.
Led by Mahant Deependra Giri, the mace was taken from Dushnami Akhada to Durga Mandir Srinagar for Pratham Pooja. After Pratham Pooja at Durga Mandir and Sureshwar Mandir, the holy mace was taken to Sedieshuwar temple Pampore for Poojan.
Police officials including SP Awantipora Mohammad Zahid, were present at the spot along with a large number of devotees. Members of local Pandit community received the Charri Mubarak at Pampore..
Scores of locals also reached the spot and welcomed the pilgrims. Giri, along with other priests, performed the puja ritual for the “Chari Asthapna” at Shiv temple Pampore before leaving to Amarnath amid tight security arrangements in Pampore, Bijbehara and Anantnag. Amid chanting of Vedic hymns, Giri and a group of sadhus later left for the Amarnath cave shrine while carrying the mace, one depicting Lord Shiva and the other Goddess Parvati.
Giri appreciated the local people for their support.
The mace reached Pahalgam on Monday evening after pujan at Shiv Temple Pampore, Shiv Temple Bijbehara, Martand-Tirth Mattan and Ashmuqam, where a large number of devotees and security officials besides local Muslims received the Charri.
Mahant said that the pilgrimage will conclude on August 26 coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan.
