CASO triggers violent protests in north Kashmir’s Handwara

Baramulla: Clashes broke out Tuesday evening in a village in north Kashmir’s Handwara, where government forces are carrying our cordon and search operation (CASO) after some gunshots were heard.

Groups of youth in Yaroo village of Langate, Handwara hit the streets this evening and staged a protest against the ongoing CASO in the area on Eid-ul-Azha eve, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. Angry youth, they said pelted rocks at the government forces near the Jamia Masjid.

“Forces fired several tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters. However, the protesters regrouped and continued renewed assaults on the government forces,” witnesses said.

Meanwhile, anti-militancy operation continues in Yaroo and its neighbouring villages of Ganapora and Udipora. CASO was launched after some gunshots were heard in the area.
