Srinagar: Chairman Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik on Sunday condemned slapping Public Safety Act against Zahoor Ahmad Bhat and shifting him to Kathua Jail. Zahoor is younger brother of slain JKLF founder Maqbool Bhat.
According to a statement issued here, Malik said, “Continued suppression of political voices by authorities is a glaring example of Jammu Kashmir being a ‘police state’ where dictatorship under the garb of democracy is prevalent.”
He said that from the year 2009, police has more than a dozen times arrested and slapped PSA on Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, adding 70 year old ailing JKLF organizer Siraj Ud Din Mir and district president Baramullah Abdul Rashid Magloo are also languishing in Kotbalwal jail under PSA while another JKLF leader Sheikh Nazir Ahmad is also serving life term in the same jail.
“Authorities are trying everything to prolong their incarceration,” Malik said.
JKLF chairman said that people of Kashmir want their kith and kin languishing in jails to be released on Eid, and appealed to ICRC and other Human rights organizations to intervene and ensure their early release from jails.
