Langate residents hold protest, seek body of slain militant

Baramulla: The residents of Langate area of frontier Kupwara district on Monday staged protests seeking body of one of the five militants killed in an encounter with government forces early this month.

Scores of resident this morning assembled at main market Langate and staged demonstrations over the alleged delay by the authorities in handing over the body of a militant killed in a gunfight with government forces on August 8, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

The protesters claimed one of the five militants killed in the encounter was a local Muzafar Ahmad Mir son of Bashir Ahmad Mir of Langate.

Angry protesters also blocked Baramulla-Handwara road to seek body of the militant who was buried with other four in Hamam village of Rafiabad.

“The police took blood samples of father of slain militant for DNA test, but till now body has not been handed over to us” a family member said.
