North Kashmir: Cops arrest 10 youth in Sopore raids

Sopore: At least ten youth were arrested by police in nocturnal raids in Tujjar village of this north Kashmir township.

Cops swooped on Tujjar village last night and arrested at least ten youth from their homes for their alleged involvement in stone pelting, locals told Kashmir Reader Sunday.

The families, however rubbish the charges that their children were involved in any protests.

SSP Sopore, Javid Iqbal confirmed that many youth have been arrested by the cops from village.

“These boys were arrested on the basis of video evidence. They had indulged in stone pelting,” Iqbal added.

On Thursday, violent protests broke out in Tujjar when government forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the village. Government forces had to use tear smoke shells after angry protesters pelted them with stones.
