Civilian killed in Awantipora grenade attack

Anantnag: A civilian was killed and three others injured, including a man from Bihar, after a grenade hurled at Awantipora police station missed the target and exploded by the roadside in Awantipora area of Pulwama district on Friday afternoon.
The killed civilian has been identified as Abdul Ahad Pinchoo, son of Ali Muhammad, resident of Awantipora. He was grievously injured in the grenade explosion and was shifted to Srinagar along with another injured. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The other three injured have been identified as Muhammad Shoaib, son of Muhammad Ismail, a resident of Bihar; Ghulam Ahmad, son of Ghulam Rasool, resident of Awantipora; and Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ali Muhammad, resident of Awantipora.
The incident took place at about 1:15 PM, a senior police officer told Kashmir Reader. He said that a grenade was hurled by militants at the rear side of police station Awantipora, which houses the office of the area’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).
“The grenade missed the target and fell on the road, where it exploded, leaving four civilians injured,” the officer said.
The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital. Two of the injured were discharged from the hospital after treatment of their wounds.
Following the grenade attack, the area was cordoned off by government forces and searches were conducted to try and nab the attackers, but no trace was found of them.
