Kangan: Conmen disguising as darvesh (mystic) decamped with jewellery worth lakhs of rupees from a house in Kachnambal village of Kangan in Ganderbal district, local sources said.
They said that two persons came in a white car (Alto) in the village, out of whom one entered the house of Mohammad Ashraf Bhat at around 12:30pm on Thursday afternoon and introduced himself as a darvesh to the women present in the house.
The conmen befooled the women by telling them that house was under a black magic spell because of the gold ornaments in the house, and asked them to present the jewellery before them to clear it of black magic.
The women fell into the trap and reportedly produced seven glod rings, necklace and other ornaments before the conmen.
They said that conmen played some tricks and fled along with the ornaments.
Incharge SHO, Police Station, Kangan, Ashiq Hussian told Kashmir Reader that they are verifying the facts.
