Srinagar: Awami National Conference (ANC) on Tuesday said that Tsering Samphel, former MLA Leh has welcomed an initiative taken by the Civil Society of the state to protect Art 35A.
The statement issued here reads that Samphel has conveyed his support in favour of retention of 35-A through ANC senior vice president Muzafar Shah.
While defending the Article 35A, Semphel said, “It gives protection to our properties and confer many special privileges to its residents. If it is gone, Ladakh particularly Leh District shall be the first victim of its repercussions.”
He slammed the promises of BJP made for Ladakh region. “BJP had promised UT for Ladakh in six months of its coming into power at the Centre in 2014, Bhoti language will be included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution and the reopening of Kailash Mansrovar in Tibet through Ladakh for pilgrimage and trade,” he said.
Semphel said on such promises Ladakhis voted in favour of BJP candidate to the Lok Sabha seat but none of the promises were fulfilled till date. “Leaving the high expectations from BJP aside instead, the very existence of Ladakhis are at stake as 35A has been challenged in the Supreme court of India with full throttle,” he said.
