PULWAMA: A cordon and search operation (CASO) in Kissrigam village in Kakapora area of Pulwama district on Monday led to clashes with locals in which a 21-year-old youth was hit by a bullet in his foot. Government forces reportedly opened fire after scores of youth pelted them with rocks and stones.
Official sources said that the CASO was conducted in Kissrigam after “inputs about the presence of militants there”.
They said that soon after government forces started conducting searches, scores of youth came out and began pelting them with rocks and stones.
Local sources said that the government forces fired several gunshots to disperse the stone-pelting youths. They said one youth was hit by a bullet and was rushed to Public Health Centre (PHC) Kakapora, from where he was referred to a Srinagar hospital.
Hospital sources identified the injured youth as 21-year-old Saleem Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, resident of Qazigund Kakapora. They said Saleem was hit by a bullet in his foot and was referred to Bone and Joint Hospital in Barzulla Srinagar for further treatment.
