Pulwama: South Kashmir’s Tral town on Monday observed a complete shutdown against the arrests of youth after an attack on a special police officer (SPO) by suspected militants last week.

Shops and commercial establishments remained closed in Tral town today against the arrest of  at least a dozen people, including close relatives of a few active militants by the government forces, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

The shutdown also witnessed thin movement of public transport in the south Kashmir town.

Witnesses said that the government forces carried out raids in Monghama, Gulshanpora, Ameerabad, Jageer and Sherabad villages shortly after an SPO Ashiq Ahmad Lone was shot at and injured by suspected militants on Tuesday last week.

“Relatives of Hizb militants Hammad Khan and Adfar Adil have also been picked up by forces. Rampant arrests are being made,” witnesses said.
