SRINAGAR: Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) on Saturday, in a statement, alleged that Commercial Taxes Department (CTD) “has started harassing the traders in the form of checking at posts like Lakhanpur and Lower Munda” as it used to happen in the previous tax regime. “This has resulted in a state of anxiety for the traders”.
However, KEA Vice Chairman, Ajaz Shahdhar reminded “when GST was introduced it was promised that there won’t be any checking at check posts”.
“The government had promised that there won’t be any assessment on stocks damaged in the 2014 floods, rather they have now assessed the cases and created demands and reversed input tax on the same goods,” the statement read.
Terming it “purely injustice” on part of the traders’ fraternity, KEA has appealed the governor to look into these issues “else, if it continues like this”, KEA said “we are left with no option but to protest at macro level and will organise a ‘gherao’ at the Commercial Taxes Department office”, the statement added.
