Cop killed, 2 CRPF men injured in ongoing Batamaloo encounter

Srinagar: A policeman has been been killed while three others, including two CRPF troopers injured in the ongoing gun-battle that raged in Batamaloo locality of the capital city here early this morning.

Special operations group (SOG) of police assisted by paramilitary CRPF in the wee hours today laid a siege around  Deyarwani locality of Batamaloo and stated cordon and search operation, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. When the searches were in progress, the militants hiding in a residential house opened random fire upon the forces in a bid to break the cordon.

The government forces, witnesses said returned the fire triggering off a gun-fight.

“On a specific information about presence of terrorists in a hideout, an operation was launched in Batmaloo Srinagar leading to exchange of fire, one SOG boy martyred, one JKP & 2 CRPF Jawans sustained injuries, operation continues,” Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid posted on his Twitter handle.

The injured cop and the troopers have been removed to the hospital for treatment.
