Srinagar: Police on Sunday detained two people from Batamaloo area of the city where a policeman was killed and three security men, including two CRPF troopers injured in a pre-dawn encounter with militants.
Based on credible leads about the presence of militants, a search operation was launched in Batamaloo area in in the pre dawn hours today, a police spokesperson in a handout issued here this morning said.
The spokesperson said that the forces came under fire when the searches in the area were going on. In the initial burst of fire, three jawans sustained injuries and were evacuated to the hospital for medical attention, he said.
The spokesman said that selection grade constable Parvaiz succumbed to his injuries.
“Security forces exercised maximum restraint in retaliation considering the residential population and other civil establishments around the area,” the spokesman said, adding “A massive search operation is underway in the area as it is understood that in the exchange of fire militants are also injured,”
The spokesman claimed to have recovered incriminating material was recovered from the site of encounter. Besides two accomplices of the militants have been detained.
“Police has registered a case and investigation has been initiated in the instant matter,” the spokesman added.
