Baramulla: Five militants killed by the army at the Vigi Top hills in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district during a two-day long gunfight were laid to rest in martyrs graveyard at Hamam village in the area Thursday night.
Local residents said that army and police handed over the bodies of all the five militants to local people for burial on Thursday at around 8pm.
“We buried the all five bodies in local martyrs graveyard near government middle school, where dozens of people including SDPO Rafiabad, SHO Dangiwocha, and large number of army was present. The forces barred us from taking pictures of bodies but allowed the funeral prayers,” a villager said.
Hamam is a small village in the upper belt of Rafiabad close to forests. Local sources said that some 15 non-local militants have been buried in the graveyard in the past while five more were buried Thursday.
The five militants were killed by the army’s 32 RR, and 9 para regiment in a two-day long gunfight which started on Wednesday morning in the Vigi Top hills. Four militants were killed on Wednesday while fifth one was killed on Thursday afternoon. The army claimed recovery of large quantity of arms from the encounter site.
