Baramulla: Army on Friday said that all the five militants killed in Vigi Top Rafiabad in a two-day long gunfight were foreign nationals affiliated to militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba.
Addressing a press conference at 7 Sector Headquarter at Pohrupet Rafiabad, brigade commander, Brigadier Dharam Raj Roy said that on 5th August forces received information about a heavily armed group of militants hiding in the upper reaches of Rafiabad forests. However the army zeroed in on militants on 8th August.
The militants fired upon the troops leading to a gunfight in which one soldier received injuries who was shifted to hospital through a helicopter, he said.
“In this encounter we eliminated all the five militants and recovered 4 AK 47 rifles, one pistol and other war like stores from them.”
He said the documents and things recovered from the slain militants indicate that they were non-local and had recently crossed over.
