Welcome to Kashmir: a region where conflict, bloodshed, paradise, beauty and so on go together. The Craze for a Government job (Sarkari Naukri) adds to the unending list of tragedies here. You heard it right; it is a tragedy which engulfs the essence of Education System. Here, being in a Government job is the basic requirement of being called a person as employed. You will be treated as a king if you have a Sarkari Naukri. You will get respect if you are a Sarkari Nauker; if not, then you even don’t deserve to live. When a child is born in Kashmir, he/she is fed with the concept of a Government Job bombarded with multiple reminders. The real aim of education gets destroyed at this point. Parents don’t educate their children to get excelled in the fields in which there interests are embedded.
Each time, a selection list is declared by recruiting agencies of the state, half of Kashmir gets immersed in the ocean of desolation and depression. The families of those, who do not get selected burst in a wave of anger. Condemnations erupt from every corner. If we carefully analyze the situation, most of the youth in Kashmir don’t excel in the fields they could have excelled to zenith. If someone wants to excel in entrepreneurship, he or she is forced to prepare for Government job exams choking and annihilating his or her path to success.
The tag of Sarkari Naukri makes one eligible for respect in society as well as in family circles. You will be labeled as intelligent if you are a Sarkari Nauker. Some are plunged in the deep era of darkness and depression. Brilliant minds get crushed in the fiasco. Researchers get jobs which are far away from their specialization wasting the talent to the highest level. Computer Engineers will even compete for peon’s job. A person with a PHD will compete for Assistants Job. The sad irony continues unabated and undiminished.
The hypocrisy does not end here; your own family will taunt you and will even call you an unwanted person. And, if you get the job the same family will praise you up to the sky. Merely qualifying a simple exam will make you an intelligent person on the earth over night. But we can’t blame our family or society all together. Students too have resorted to the rat race no matter even if their talent is crushed in the process. The words “Government Job” have gotten encrypted in the hearts and minds in Kashmir. Very rarely, parents in Kashmir have allowed their children to excel in their fields of interest and they have excelled not only at National level but at the International levels. Their status today is shining.
There is a world beyond the Government. Believe me, Government job is not as easy as it seems. It will snatch your freedom as you will be bound to rules. You can’t even breathe freely. Those who have tasted it will narrate you the tales of misery. Those who get it well and good, but those who don’t, it is not the end of the world. Life is beautiful to be lived to its fullest even without being in a Government Job. There is no end to success. Shine and Rise. Failures are not final. Try again and again. Not merely for a job, but for a success that will enlighten the world and satisfies the soul at the end of the day. Sky is the limit.
