Srinagar: Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers on Thursday staged a massive protest demonstration here in Srinagar demanding the implementation of 7th pay commission benefits for its teachers.
Scores of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers from various districts of Kashmir Valley assembled here in Sher-e-Kashmir Park and started a protest march towards Lal Chowk. The protesters were demanding implementation of the 7th pay commission benefits for its employees
As the protestors tried to march towards Lal Chowk, police swung into action and foiled the march by using water cannons.
President Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) Abdul Qayoom Wani said that they had organized the protest to press for the demand of SSA teachers, Head teachers and RMSA masters for release of their monthly salary with the benefits of 7th pay commission.
“Four months have passed but the government has not taken any step for implementation of 7th pay commission benefits for SSA teachers, head teachers and RMSA masters,” said Wani.
Wani said that they demand de-linking of their salaries from MHRD funds to state government budget.
“We don’t want academics of students should get affected in the schools but the government has failed to address genuine demands of the teachers which forced us to hit roads”, Said Mohammad Afzal, president Teachers Forum of Kashmir.
The protesting teachers threatened that Teachers Joint Action Committee (TJAC) in coordination with EJAC will announce massive protest across the state in case the government fails to release their salaries as per 7th pay commission and link it with state budget.
