SHOPIAN: Residents from Zawoora, Nadpora, Ganowpora and adjoining villages in Shopian rue the “apathy” of Roads and Buildings department who they said failed to macadamise the road despite approval of funds and tenders.
They added that a bridge on the rivulet near Shopian police line was dysfunctional despite its completion. Villagers from Zawoora told Kashmir Reader that the tenders for black coating of road were issued in 2015-2016 but despite that the road was not brought under the scheme.
A villager told Kashmir Reader that officials from R&B department utilised the funds in another area. “First they utilised the funds for another area and now have kept the bridge closed despite completion,” a local resident said. Villagers told Kashmir Reader that several times, they brought the issue to the notice of Executive Engineer Shopian but nothing was done on ground. Executive Engineer R&B Shopian, Zahoor Ahmad, however claimed that the road has been macadamised.
When contacted Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Owais Ahmad said he would “look into the matter”.
