Hajin villagers protest against shortage of drinking water

Hajin: The inhabitants of Baharabad village of Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district Friday staged a protest against the Department of Public Health Engineering (PHE) over non-availability of drinking water in their area.

The protesters, mostly women and children blocked the Hajin–Srinagar road at Baharabad for hours due to which traffic movement was disrupted.

The protesters were demanding restoration of the water supply in the area which according to them is blocked for several days.

A protester told Kashmir Reader “We are without drinking water for past several days. The department has turned a blind eye towards the problems being faced by us due to non-availability of drinking water.”

Later a police party led by SHO Hajin Muneeb ul Islam visited the spot and assured the protesters that their demand will be conveyed to the concern department.

On the assurance of the SHO the protesters dispersed peacefully and traffic was restored on the road.
