Srinagar: Sewer system malfunctions amid latent maintenance issues continue to plague Barkat Lane, Botashah Mohalla, Lal Bazar in Srinagar city.
The residents complained that the drainage system in the area got blocked few months back and due to which sewage and dirty water overflows in the Lane, frequently turning into a pond.
“It is getting difficult for the residents to even venture out of their houses and the dirty water of the drain is entering our house and is likely to cause damage to the houses,” a delegation of the area said.
From last three months, the residents said they have been continuously approaching the SMC Srinagar, Executive Engineer City Drainage, Superintending Engineer City Drainage, Executive Engineer J&K UEED as well as the NBCC but to no avail. “Nothing has been done to clear the blocked drain till date. Every department is passing the buck on another department and no one is willing to perform their duties,” they said.
They sought intervention of the Chief Secretary and Advisor to Governor in the matter.
