Srinagar: Members of Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) staged a protest march here on Thursday in solidarity with Jammu based Muslims and in support of strengthening Article 370, Article 35A.
Led by the party head and MLA Langate, Er Rasheed, the protesting workers of AIP, assembled here in Sher-e-Kashmir Park Srinagar and later marched towards city center Lal Chowk chanting slogans and holding banners which read, “End Jungle raj in Jammu” and “protecting 35A is compulsion”.
The party members also raised slogans in support of Lawyer Talib Hussain and termed Murfad Shahs killing as “cold blooded murder”. Murfad Shah was killed by the security forces guarding residence of Farooq Abdullah in Bathandi Jammu.
“Apart from defending Article 35A, we believe in plebiscite and appeal New Delhi to hear the plea of every Kashmiri citizen as promised by Prime Minister of India Jawahar Lal Nehru, said Rasheed to Kashmir Reader.
Rasheed said that until Kashmiris are not given to right to self-determination, it is important to protect Article 370, article 35-A.
Criticizing government for allowing discrimination of Muslims in Jammu, Rasheed said that Muslims residing in 16 residential areas in Jammu were given notice to vacate from their houses. “Jammu police seem to have forgotten its professional duties,” he said.
Rasheed appealed citizens of Kashmir to protest in solidarity with Jammu based Muslims and against the atrocities inflicted on them. “Every Kashmiri should take a stand for the Muslim community of Jammu, like our party took this stand,” Rasheed said.
Several members of the AIP during the protest march raised pro-Kashmir and anti-Indian slogans. The slogans against the “jungle raj in Jammu” were also raised by the party head and other members.
As soon as the protesters reached near Press Enclave Srinagar, men in uniform swung into action and arrested Rasheed along with some of his workers and foiled their march.
