Srinagar: J&K High Court Bar Association, Srinagar on Wednesday expressed deep concern over the shifting of chairperson Dukhtaran-e-Millat Asiya Andrabi and her aides Nahida Nasreen and Fahmida Sofi, to Tihar jail New Delhi.
According to a statement, Bar said that the jail authorities are not allowing their family members to meet them in jail, and describes the same as “inhuman”, saying it is also a clear violation of the directions of Supreme Court, which provides for allowing the family members of the under trial prisoners/detainees lodged in jail to meet them at least twice a week.
The Bar Association maintains that an under trail prisoner/detainees while in jail is not denuded of his/her legal or fundamental rights and all those aspects of life which make a person to live with human dignity are included in the meaning of right to life, to which an under trial prisoner or a detainee is entitled to under the International as well as the domestic laws.
The Bar in a statement demands that International Red Cross and other human rights organisations should send to teams Tihar jail and see for itself as in what condition these leaders are subjected to and as to whether they are being provided the basic amenities of life in the jail or not.
