Anantnag: Abducted by unidentified gunmen late Tuesday evening, two youths from Kulgam district were released Wednesday evening.
The two of them have been identified as Arif Sofi of Khodweni and Meraj Ahmad Dar of Havoora village in Kulgam district.
Local sources told Kashmir Reader that the two were abducted from their homes Tuesday evening by unidentified gunmen, who came in at least two vehicles.
“The gunmen took them from their homes and nothing was heard of them till this evening, when they were released,” a local source said, alleging that the two of them have been badly beaten.
While Mehraj Dar, sources said, was treated locally, Sofi had to be shifted to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for specialised treatment.
A senior police officer confirmed the events while talking to Kashmir Reader but said that the families are yet to come up with a formal complaint.
“On our part, we have been trying to get in touch with the families since last evening but they have avoided the police. I think they do not want to file a complaint,” the officer said.
He confirmed that one of the youths had been taken to Srinagar for treatment.
