Anantnag: Suspected militants on Tuesday evening shot at and injured a Special Police Officer (SPO) in Pastuna area of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The injured has been identified as 24-year-old Ashiq Hussain Lone, son of Abdul Samad Lone, resident of Pastuna village in Tral area.
The attack came a day after militants fired at an SPO in Loddaw village of Tral, while he was coming out of a mosque. He was lucky to have escaped the bid on his life.
More than 4 policemen have been killed by suspected militants in south Kashmir in July this year.
A senior police officer confirmed that the SPO was shot at and injured in Pastuna by militants. He said that the shootout took place at about 7:50 PM.
“The militants shot at him outside his house in Pastuna. He was visiting home on a vacation,” the police officer said, adding that the injured SPO was immediately rushed to Tral Sub-District Hospital.
A doctor at the hospital said that his condition was stable.
Local sources told Kashmir Reader that the area has been cordoned off and searches were being carried out to try and nab the attackers.
