Srinagar: Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) on Tuesday said “Omar Abdullah’s party is historically responsible for diluting the special status of the state from time to time for mere political power.”
Reacting sharply to the remarks of Omar Abdullah over the protests in favour of Article 35-A by the pro-freedom leaders and people, the DFP spokesperson in a statement said that protest favouring Article 35-A is not any “tacit acceptance” of Indian Constitution but part of the resistance to safeguard the disputed nature of the region.
Terming the two day shutdown as historic, he said, “It showed that the people of Jammu Kashmir can go to any extent to safeguard their peculiar identity which has been time and again damaged by all the pro-India parties like National Conference.”
A spokesperson said that Article 35A grants special privileges and rights to the permanent residents of Jammu Kashmir and debars non-residents from buying land or property and getting jobs in the disputed region. “This Article of Indian Constitution is protecting and safeguarding the disputed nature of the region and identity of the people living here. It is our utmost responsibility to rise to defend our special status,” he concluded.
