Srinagar: Professor Talat Ahmad is to assume office of the Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University on Tuesday.
Talat’s appointment was made on July 26.
Registrar Kashmir University, Professor Khurshid Ahmad Butt confirmed to Kashmir Reader that Prof Talat has been relieved by Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI) New Delhi and will assume charge today.
Prof Talat has earlier served as the VC Kashmir University from 2012 to 2014. He was given a three-year extension, six months ahead of the completion of his first term, but was soon appointed as the vice-chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia for next five years.
After his M Sc in Geology from Aligarh Muslim University in 1977 and M Phil in Ore Petrology from JNU in 1980, Prof Talat completed his Ph.D. in Igneous Petrology from JNU in 1985. He subsequently did a postdoctoral fellowship with the University of Leicester in 1988-89, another postdoctoral fellowship with the University of Cambridge in 1997-98 and yet another postdoctoral fellowship with Nagoya University (Japan) 1999-2000.
