SRINAGAR: The counsel retained by National Conference (NC) in the Supreme Court of India made a comprehensive presentation at the apex court on Monday in defence of Article 35-A of the Constitution of India, party’s provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani said.
In a statement, Wani said NC’s counsel Advocate Joydeep Gupta made the presentation as an intervener to the petition filed challenging the Article 35-A after the party’s intervention plea was filed earlier.
“Our counsel Advocate Gupta made an elaborate and effective presentation at the Supreme Court today and the judges agreed to hear all parties. We are closely monitoring the case and our team of lawyers are leaving no stone unturned to present the constitutional facts and realities in an effective manner. We will continue to defend the state’s special status at every juncture,” NC provincial president said.
The statement said that a team of lawyers and representatives of the party led by Nasir Aslam Wani are camping in New Delhi and following the proceedings of the case closely. “NC south zone president and former MLC Bashir Ahmed Veeri is also camping in New Delhi and was present at the Supreme Court when the hearing came up,” it said.
Wani said NC would not let its guard down and its legal team and counsels would present the factual and constitutional dimensions of Article 35-A at the Supreme Court on the next date of hearing.
