PULWAMA: Thousands of people on Saturday participated in the funeral prayers of slain militant Khursheed Ahmad Malik at his native village Arabal in Nikas area of Pulwama district. Khursheed, a BTech graduate, was killed along with his associate Riyaz Ahmad, resident of Naseerabad Sopore, in a gunfight with government forces at Drusoo village of Sopore on Friday. An army soldier also was killed during the gunfight.
Khursheed had joined militant ranks just two days ago, on July 1.
Since Friday evening, thousands of mourners from different villages of Pulwama district started reaching Arabal to participate in his last rites, locals told Kashmir Reader. The body of Khursheed was handed over to his family late Friday evening by police.
After three rounds of funeral prayers, two rounds held on Friday and one on Saturday, Khursheed was laid to rest at about 11am in his ancestral graveyard amid pro-freedom, pro-Islam and anti-government slogans, witnesses said.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in parts of Pulwama district to mourn the death of Khursheed.
