SRINAGAR: “The people of Kashmir shall resist, to their full capacity, against the fascist ploy to change the Muslim majority status of the state,” said the Hurriyat leaders on Friday while protesting against the attempts to abrogate the Article 35-A.
The protest was led by the general secretary of Syed Ali Geelani-led Hurriyat Conference outside the amalgam headquarters at Hyderpora here.
The leaders, according to a statement issued here, cautioned New Delhi that the people of Kashmir will never give up their demand for right to self-determination. They expressed satisfaction over the solidarity shown by the institutions from all walks of life “to fight Indian hegemony, stubbornness and aggression of all sorts, with one voice”.
Meanwhile, chairman of the amalgam Syed Ali Geelani paid tributes to armed youth killed in Kupwara and Sopore encounters and said the youth have opted gun as a reaction to the Indian military and forcible “occupation” of Kashmir.
Terming Kashmir as a basic issue of contention between the two nuclear powers – India and Pakistan – of the subcontinent, Geelani regretted the “stubborn postures of India to deal this political issue with its military might”.
