Anantnag: Suspected militants threw a hand grenade at government forces’ men guarding the State Bank of India branch at the busy Lal Chowk area of Anantnag town on Friday afternoon. The grenade explosion caused minor injuries to a policeman and a paramilitary CRPF trooper, both of whom are being treated at Anantnag district hospital where their condition is said to be out of danger.
The attack was carried out by unidentified militants at about 1:00 PM, right opposite the Anantnag Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Panic gripped the busy market as soon as the grenade exploded. People ran for cover, shopkeepers leaving their shops unattended.
A senior police officer said that CRPF men guarding the State Bank of India branch at Lal Chowk were targeted by the militants.
“A policeman and a CRPF personnel sustained minor injuries in the attack. They are safe and are being treated at Anantnag district hospital,” the officer said.
A doctor at Anantnag district hospital told Kashmir Reader that the injured were being treated and were completely out of danger.
The police officer said that the area was cordoned off following the explosion and a search to nab the attackers was launched.
