NC files intervention plea on Article 35-A in the Supreme Court

Srinagar: National Conference on Friday filed an intervention plea in the Supreme Court seeking to be included as respondents in the petition challenging Article 35-A, which grants special rights and privileges to permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a handout issued here this evening, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani filed the intervention plea on behalf of the party through advocate Adeeba Mujahid and her associate advocate Nazir Ahmed Malik at the Supreme Court.

“National Conference will fight this battle from the forefront and will do everything necessary to safeguard the State’s special status and political rights”,Wani, according to the statement said.

“We will make our case in the Supreme Court in light of the constitutional facts through which the State negotiated its accession with the Union of India – after having acceded to the Union in extraordinary circumstances,” he added.
