Srinagar: Clashes erupted between protesters and government forces in south Kashmir’s Pulwama on Friday soon after the news about the killing of a local militant in Sopore gunfight spread the area.
The news, however, was not confirmed by official sources.
Earlier, a gunfight broke out in a Sopore village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Local sources said that trouble started in Pulwama after the news that Khursheed Ahmad Malik son of Ghulam Nabi Malik, was killed in Sopore gunfight spread in the area. Police and other officials however did not confirm the killing of Khursheed.
Local sources said that soon shopkeepers pulled down their shutters in the Pulwama town after youth pelted stones on government forces.
Khursheed, a B Tech Student of Nikas village had joined militant ranks only last month.
His mother had appealed him to return home through a video which had gone viral on social media.
