Anantnag: Hundreds of members of a minority community Wednesday blocked the busy Khannabal-Pahalgam (KP) road in Mattan area of Anantnag against the alleged kidnapping of two tenth class girls of their community, while returning from school on Tuesday.
The girls, as per the protestors, reached home late last evening and upon being questioned by the families they revealed that they were forcibly taken to Srinagar by a cab (Tavera) driver.
“They had boarded the cab on their way back from school,” the protestors said.
The protestors blocked the KP road for well over an hour putting to halt hundreds of vehicles including those carrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims towards Pahalgam.
Police reached the spot and the protestors were pacified following which they returned home, “with an assurance that the case will be thoroughly probed,”
A senior police official from Anantnag told Kashmir Reader that the case does not, prima facie, look like that of abduction.
“We have talked to the school authorities and other concerned people,” the police official said.
He said that, on basis of investigation carried so far, the police will be issuing a formal statement later in the evening.
“We will clear the air about the whole incident,” he said.
