Drainage project leaves Residency road with potholes, traders demand macadamization

SRINAGAR: Commuters and shopkeepers at Residency road Lal Chowk are aghast over the delay in macadamization after roads were dug out for the drainage work.
The drainage work started before one month ago has caused immense problems for the commuters who are parking their vehicles along the road side of residency road.
The drainage line, which also serves as a designated parking has been refilled with soil and bajri over the drainage work and can cause accidents and injuries to pedestrians.
Aqib Farooq, a salesman at a shop on Residency road said that from last two weeks more than four incidents has been taken places in front of him.
“Four people were Injured in accidents due to the condition of road”,” said Aqib.
Another local Faizan Ahmed added that, “I face a lot of difficult in parking my vehicle on the designated parking area. My vehicle has got so many dents and scratches due to the worst condition of the roadside.”
“If the most of drainage work has been completed in the area Why the government is not macdamising this portion,” said Showket Hussain Bhat, one of the shopkeepers at Residency road.
When contacted SMC Commissioner Srinagar, Riyaz Ahmad Wan, he said “we have six months’ time to complete this drainage projects as per the government orders. Within this period the project will be fully completed in the area.”
