SRINAGAR: Syed Ali Geelani-led Hurriyat Conference on Monday condemned the “rampant use” of PSA and FIRs against youth “to prolong their illegal custody”.
“Youth are being detained on fake charges,” Hurriyat (G) general secretary Ghulam Nabi Sumji in a statement said.
He expressed grave concern over the use of “excessive” force against innocent civilians and youth, saying “intimidations and coercive measures” won’t force people into submission.
He said during CASO, youth were “mercilessly thrashed, subjected to worst humiliation, their mobile phones snatched and scrutinised”, terming it “worst type of arrogance”.
“This is the direct assault on civil liberty and fundamental rights of common masses. Denying liberty, dignity and subjecting to humiliation, tantamount to gross human rights violation,” he said and appealed international organisations for human rights to “check the use of unbridled force and initiate impartial probe against growing human rights violations in Kashmir”.
He blamed NIA for harassing the resistance leadership, saying the raids on residence of incarcerated leader Syeda Asiya Andrabi are “highly deplorable”.
