Black bear ‘poisoned’ to death in Bandipora

Srinagar, July 31: A black bear has been poisoned to death in Panar forest area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, officials said today.

They said a team of wildlife officials joined by police and veterinary doctors rushed to Panar forest area after receiving information of a male black bear aged about four to five years lying dead.

“The preliminary investigation reveals that the bear has been poisoned to death as the body has swelled,” said Ghulam Jeelani Lone, wildlife range officer Chiternar forest Division.

He said that the police have started investigations while veterinary doctors were conducting postmortem of the dead bear.
