SRINAGAR: Governor N N Vohra has overhauled the Governing Body of S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura removing ‘blue-eyed’ faculty members from it. He has also included his Advisors in place of ministers as members of the body.
As per the order issued on Saturday, the Governor has removed senior faculty members from the SKIMS governing body who were earlier included in the high-level body in a surprise move by PDP-BJP government violating the basic rules.
“Dr Khursheed Aalam and Dr Altaf Umar Ramzan who are believed to be close to last Chief Minister have been removed from the body,” an official said.
Dr M S Khuroo, senior scientist and former Director SKIMS who was earlier removed by the last government from the governing body have again been included as a member.
Dr Khuroo was expelled as Vice-Chairman of Apical Selection committee and Member of Governing Body after he resisted several irregularities the authorities in the selection process.
The order said the Governor will be the chairman of the Governing Body while as Advisor (V) to Governor, Advisor (K) to Governor, Advisor (G) to Governor, Chief Secretary J&K, Director AIIMS New Delhi, Prof M S Khuroo former Director and Dean SKIMS Soura, Dr Puneet Dhar Chairman Gastrointestinal Surgery and Liver Transplant Services AIIMS, Kochi, Kerala, Principal Medical College Jammu, Principal Medical College Kashmir, Principal SKIMS Medical College & Hospital, Bemina Srinagar and Director SKIMS will be the members while Director SKIMS, Dr Omar Javed Shah will be the member secretary.
SKIMS has come under scanner for various reasons especially when PDP-BJP government removed the last Director Dr A G Ahanger from the post. Later, many mismanagement and corrupt practices came to the fore from the institute which leads to many controversies.
Meanwhile, the doctors held indefinite strike which affected the patient care.
