Srinagar: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation would install Point of Sale (POS) machines at its 34 wards and central office, and also introduce online payment system transactions to facilitate digital payments, Commissioner SMC Riyaz Ahmed Wani said Saturday.
A statement issued by the SMC said the initiative has been taken in the wake of guidelines framed by Government of India and Housing and Urban Development Department J&K to strengthen the digital payment infrastructure.
The SMC Commissioner has issued a circular to implement digital infrastructure of the corporation and a letter has been sent to J&K Bank branch Balgarden.
Wani said SMC is about to install 38 POS terminals of which 34 will be installed at 34 municipal adminstrative wards for collection of user charges and sanitation fees.
For collection of Birth and Death, Building Permission fee through single window system, the remaining four machines would be installed at the central citizen facilitation centre, SMC Corporate office Karan Nagar.
The process would be completed at an earliest and in August the digtal payment systems would be started, the statement said.
GIS expert SMC Mir Altaf Nabi said that citizens can pay user charges/sanitation, Birth and death, Building Permission fee online through netbanking .
