Seven CRPF soldiers injured in Awantipora grenade attack

Anantnag: Seven CRPF personnel were injured on Saturday in a grenade explosion in Awantipora area of Pulwama.
The incident took place at around 7:20 pm in Jawbera area of Awantipora outside army’s Victor Force headquarters.
A senior police official confirmed the incident and said, “Seven personnel of the CRPF have been injured. We are ascertaining further details”.
He said the injured were rushed to a local hospital for treatment where from three of them were removed to army hospital in Badamibagh. The injured have been identified as head constable Ratikant Malik, Oom Prakash, Brain Singh, Rohit Verma, constable Mohan Rao, JK Padh and Raju Gagayee.
Local sources told Kashmir Reader that a Bullet Proof mobile bunker of 130 Bn CRPF was returning to nearby camp when a grenade was thrown into the vehicle. Sources said that the grenade was thrown into the bunker through an open window. Following the explosion a huge contingent of government forces rushed to the area. Searches were being carried out in the area while this report was being filed.
Meanwhile, police arrested a youth on Saturday who snatched 12-bore rifle of a security guard of J&K Bank’s main branch Shopian in south Kashmir on Friday.
The youth has been identified as Junaid Hameed Ganai of Shamshipora Shopian.
A senior police officer told Kashmir Reader that the accused has been arrested and weapon recovered from him.
