ANANTNAG: The abducted cop, in Tral area was on Friday evening released by militants after his mother made an appeal to them for his release.
The video of his release went viral on social media in which cop confirms by making a statement before the camera that he has been released by militants of Hizbul Mujahideen for “apparently” letting other SPOs know that they should look for honourable alternative means of livelihood.
The abducted policeman, Mudassir Ahmad Lone of Chankatar village in Tral, was presently posted as a cook in Reshipora area of Awantipora.
A senior police official from the area confirmed the abduction and said that a massive manhunt had been launched to trace the whereabouts of the abducted policeman.
“Three militants are believed to have forced their way into his home late last night and abducted him on gunpoint. We have launched a manhunt,” the police official said.
Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid has meanwhile said that the police were verifying the incident.
“His family has perhaps said that he has gone to his relatives. We are still verifying it,” Vaid told reporters at a function in Srinagar, a local news agency reported.
“The policemen should take care while visiting home. We will have to deal with the abductors,” he said.
Meanwhile, the family of the abducted cop in a fervent and emotional appeal through a video circulated on social media requested the militants to release their son.
“He is the only brother of my three daughters,” the SPO’s mother can be heard imploring in the video. “You are also my children. I appeal to you to let him go. He will quit his job and apologise for his mistakes.”
The family has maintained that Lone was about to quit his job in the police and announce the same in the local mosque this Friday.
“But he got busy with something and could not make the announcement,” his mother said.
She assured that her son will quit the job and apologise for everything if he is rleased by the militants.
Militants have intensified abducting cops from their homes in the Valley. Before Lone, a trainee constable, Muhammad Saleem Shah, was abducted from his home in Motelahama village of Kulgam and was found dead on July 21 in Ghaat Khodweni, a few kilometres from his home. But the police claimed to have killed the abductors the next day after the killing of three Lashkar militants in Kulgam.
Earlier on July 6, a policeman, Javaid Ahmad Dar, was abducted from his home in Vehil village of Shopian and was found shot dead the next morning.
On June 14, an army soldier from Poonch was abducted on his way home from Shopian, where he was posted. He body was found hours later.
