Kangan: A youth missing from past three weeks was found dead in a power canal in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Saturday, police said.
An Official said that body of Shakeel Ahmad Awan (24) of Satruna Kangan, a graduate, who was missing from his home since July 10 this month was recovered from the power canal of upper Sindh hydal project, three miles away from his home near Panzin Kangan .
He said at around 10 am, locals spotted a body floating in the power canal and informed the police.
A police party from Kangan police station rushed to the spot and with the help of locals retrieved the body from a canal.
After conducting medical and legal formulates the body was handed over to the family.
The family members said that the day Shakeel went missing, his phone was found switched off at around 9 am, hours after he left his home. “After we failed to trace him, we logged a missing report in police station Kangan,” Shekeel’s family members said.
“We demand probe into the death of our son as we have apprehension that he has been murdered,” they said.
Khurshid Ahmed SHO Kangan said that they have taken cognizance of the case under section 174RPC and are investigating it. “We are waiting for post-mortem report and it is premature to say about the cause of the death,” he said.
