SRINAGAR: Casual labourers of the Animal Husbandry department from various districts of Kashmir valley on Saturday held a protest here demanding release of their wages after the statement by Principal Secretary, Asgar Hassan Samoon shrugged off the pleas of some causal labourers by telling that to seek the salary from “politicians who appointed them”.
The protesters assembled in Press Enclave here under the banner of Association of Casual Labourers. Yasir Naik, president of Casual Labours Association of Kashmir province said that they are demanding the regularisation policy and monthly salary as per the SRO 520 which was approved by the cabinet and Finance department.
“We are without wages from last five years. We are more than 700 casual labours working in various districts of Kashmir valley,” said Naik.
He asked, “If we are illegal appointees, then how department passed orders for our transfer. We have been appointed by the Director of Animal husbandry, how it is possible our appointment is fake.”
The protesters said that the statement by Asgar Samoon is “unacceptable”.
“We are working in the department from last 12 years. Government is doing injustice with us and our families,” said Altaf Hussain, one of the casual labour in Animal Husbandry department.
“We have proper appointed and transfer orders issued by the department,” they said.
We will hit the streets again if the government fails to heed to our demands, they said.
