SRINAGAR: All Jammu and Kashmir MGNREGA Contractual Employees Association on Monday held a massive protest demonstration here in Srinagar demanding their absorption in Rural Development department (RDD).
The protesting employees first assembled here in press enclave, later on the protesters tried to move towards the Lal Chowk. The police come in action and arrested some of their employees.
The Protesters raised the slogans, “we want justice”, “and we want absorption”.
The protesters said that the employees are serving the RDD department from last ten years, “We need our future security and demand our absorption in the concerned RDD department in phase wise,” said Adil one of the contractual employees in the MGNREGA.
Syed Jaffer, Chairman of MGNREGA Association said “we are demanding that most of the vacancies which are vacant in the department and they can be absorbed through a road map.
“Last year committee was constituted to absorb us in the Rural Development department but till date no concrete decision has been taken in this regard” said Jaffer.
The protesters said if the government fails to take any concrete decision regarding their demand, they along with their family members will join this protest.
The protesters requested the governor NN Vohra to intervene into the matter.
