Expresses concern over high parking charges at Srinagar airport

SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) held an interactive meeting with the Director Airport Authority, Srinagar, Akash Deep Mathur on 23rd of July here at the chamber office.
The chamber discussed functioning of the Srinagar International Airport and the facilities available at the airport in detail.
In a statement issued here, the chamber, while appreciating the efforts of the airport director in improving the available facilities, expressed its deep concern over the high parking charges at the airport.
“After detailed discussions, Mathur agreed to consider fixing the rate at Rs 20/- per hour which was fair and reasonable,” the statement read.
The director assured the chamber that action has been initiated to put in place the canopy type waiting facility outside the Terminal Building and the facility as such would be available exclusively for passengers’ use within coming two months. Mathur also assured the chamber of improvement in the Public Address System as efforts would be made to make announcements in Kashmiri language also.
The airport director also assured that flight information display in Urdu would also be taken up with the concerned authorities while in the meantime the signage for various facilities at the Terminal Building are being made in Urdu.
Snacks, both of higher as also that of economy price, are being made available at the Terminal Building, it read.
The issues regarding charging User Development fee (UDF) from passengers, Simplication of FRO forms, Tourist Police uniform will be taken up with the concerned authorities to look into, said the director.
The airport authority would start the operations of two more already existing conveyor belts after the end of Hajj season.
The meeting also revealed that one more new terminal building approved for which contract has already been allotted, is coming up by September 2019. Besides other facilities common cargo terminal with added capacity is being provided in the new building, the statement read.
The chamber appreciated the efforts, as explained by the director, for improving the facilities at the Srinagar International Airport, while assuring the director due cooperation for improvement.
