Srinagar, July 27: Special Operations Group (SOG) of police on Friday carried out cordon and search operation in Batamaloo locality of the capital city where a CRPF trooper was shot dead by militants on Tuesday.
A posse of SOG personnel appeared near the old Batamaloo bus stand this evening and started checking vehicles and frisking pedestrians, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. The cops also searched the belongings of commuters travelling in private and public transport.
Witnesses said that the surprise checking led to massive traffic jam on the congested road that connects Srinagar to other districts of the Valley.
Earlier, SOG and CRPF carried out searches in Lal Chowk, the commercial hub of this capital city.
On Tuesday, militants shot dead CRPF trooper Shankar Lal Barala near the fire and emergency services department, Batamaloo. Since then, security has been upped in this capital city.
