Shutdown in parts of Anantnag, Kulgam

Bijbehara: Five paramilitary CRPF personnel were injured after a hand grenade hurled by suspected militants Thursday exploded near them in Bijbehara town of Anantnag district.
All five of them were rushed to nearby Sub-district hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.
As per police reports, the attack was carried out by unidentified militants in busy Goriwan Chowk of Bijbehara, along the old alignment of national Highway.
“At around 3:30 PM today militants hurled a hand grenade at CRPF men on duty along the highway,” a senior police official said.
He said that five CRPF men were injured in the explosion and were rushed to the nearby hospital.
“They are all stable,” he said.
The explosion was followed by intense aerial firing by the paramilitary personnel. The explosion and the firing created panic in the area as people ran for cover leaving their shops and businesses unattended.
Some commuters also left their vehicles on the road and ran for cover.
Following the explosion and the firing a cache of government forces reached the spot and carried searches to try and nab the attackers, who had fled by then.
Meanwhile, a shutdown was observed in parts of Anantnag and Kulgam districts, a day after two LeT militants were killed in Lal Chowk of Anantnag.
Minor stone pelting was witnessed in Lal Chowk area while as songs of freedom were played from mosque loudspeakers.
Hundreds thronged the gunfight site in Mehman Mohalla locality of Lal Chowk. Traffic remained off roads and all offices remained closed as well.
