Shopian: Brother of a slain Hizb militant, arrested in connection with the murder of a man in Shopian last week, has escaped from a police station Tuesday night sending police into a tizzy.
Suhail Ahmad Wani of Heff Shopian, who was detained with two other men last week, escaped from Police Station Zainpora Tuesday night, a senior police official told Kashmir Reader while adding that a case has been registered in this regard.
All three detainees, including the escaped youth, are brothers of slain militants and were arrested from their homes in the intervening night of July 14 and 15. While Wani is brother of slain Hizb militant Nasir Wani, the other two youth are Shakir Ahmad Padder, brother of slain Hizb commander Sadam Padder, and Suhail Ahmad Sheikh, brother of slain militant Irfan-ul-Haq Sheikh of Maldair Shopian.
The three have been detained over the killing of Tariq Ahmad Mohand, cousin of another slain militant Bilal Ahmad Mohand.
Soon after the escape, a joint team of government forces launched searches in several areas.
A police officer said that the escaped youth had been detained for questioning.
“He was arrested for questioning regarding a case and we hope he will be arrested by evening after that we will talk about this issue,” he said.
