Budgam: The Asha workers of Sub-district hospital Chrar-I-Sharief and patients on Wednesday locked the hospital premises in protest against the attachment order of a lone Gynecologist to district Hospital Budgam for weekly night duty from SDH Chrar-I-Sharief.

Angry protestors locked the hospital gate and disturbed the working schedule in the hospital.

Demanding revocation of the order issued by Medical Superintendent Budgam, protestors demanded immediate revocation of order and said that hospital lacks post-operative health care.

Scores of patients from Pulawama, Kralpora, Pakherpora and other far off places who had come to consult the gynecologist left dejected.

“I came from Pulwama just to meet the gynecologist but after reaching here I came to known that she is not present here today, ”said Insha from Pulwama while talking to Kashmir Reader.

The protesting patients and Asha workers said that the order will impact the smooth functioning of the hospital as the Gynecologist will avail a three day off at SDH Chrar against her night duty at DH Budgam. The doctors attending night duties take three days off, 1 ahead of the night and 2 days post the night duty.

Rifat Ara president of Asha Union Chrar-i- Sharief while talking to Kashmir reader said “the patients from far flung areas prefer to get operated from this hospital as it is very convenient and proper health care is provided to them, but it seems district administration is not happy with the better service these patients avail”.

Demanding the revocation of the order, angry Asha workers and patients appealed DC Budgam Sherish Asgar to intervene in the matter.

Block Medical Hospital Chrar I Sharief DR Mastoora Iqbal admitted that in absence of gynecologist in the hospital patients suffer and requested higher officials to revoke the order.

Meanwhile Tehsildar Chrar-i- Sharief Mubashir Ahmad while talking to Kashmir Reader said that he has forwarded the demand to the higher ups and have been assured that the order will be revoked. “I taked to SDM, ADC and other officials in district and they assured me that the gynecologist will be available for the patients for the patients from tomorrow” Mubashir said.

Angry protestors said that if the district administration fails to revoke the order immediately they will continue their protest.
