SRINAGAR: Muslim League Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday condemned the “harassment” of Kashmiri inmates at Udhampur Jail, terming it “violation of human rights”.
A League spokesperson in a statement said, “Kashmiri prisoners in Udhampur Jail are being ill-treated, harassed and even deprived of medical facilities. The jail authorities have been refusing to provide any medical treatment to ailing inmates.”
He said the death of Noor Khan is also “due to negligence of jail authorities”. “The proper medical aid and other facilities they (prisoners) are eligible to, according to the jail manual, are completely denied, and the prisoners are treated like animals in this jail,” he said.
The spokesperson appealed human rights bodies to “take cognisance of the condition of Kashmiri inmates and effective steps to save them from atrocities being perpetrated on them”.
