Srinagar: All Jammu and Kashmir Village Guard Association on Monday staged a massive protest demonstration here in Pratap Park demanding increase in their monthly salaries.
The protesters demanded the instant hike in their monthly salaries from existing rupees 1500 to rupees 5000 monthly as approved by the State administration in October 2017.
The protesters first gathered in Pratap Park and further marched towards Press enclave Srinagar chanting slogans, “We want Justice”, “Stop fooling us”.
The protesters claimed that the state administration has issued an order regarding the hike in salaries of all the village guards to rupees five thousand per month (Chokidars) on October 25, 2017 but till date the linked “order file” is stuck and pending in the concerned revenue department and yet to be implemented.
“We want our salaries hike as ordered by the state government, the revenue department is fooling us every time,” said Sheikh Bashir Ahmad, President of the Association.
The protesters alleged that the concerned revenue department makes them move from pillar to post and their related file is just being moved from table to table from October last year. “If government has issued an order for the hike of salaries, than what stops them from implementing it,” said protesters. “We do our duty regularly without any off day, still we are being paid meager wages,” they added.
The protesters appealed Governor to intervene in the matter for redressal of their issues.
